The American Dream

Home ownership is still the American Dream! Results of a national survey of 2,000 likely voters in the upcoming Presidential election show that despite economic conditions, and the current housing crisis, home ownership is considered a solid investment. And in the same breath as we mention the housing crisis, it's worth noting that while nationally the real estate market is sluggish, the Des Moines market remains strong. Executive Officer of the Homebuilders Association of Greater Des Moines, Creighton Cox says, "Housing permits were up more than 25% from 2009 to 2010, and we expect another double digit increase in 2011."

In a conversation with Les Sulgrove, President of the Des Moines Area Association of Realtors, Les reports that closed transactions from last year to this year are only down slightly, and when you consider that last year the government offered a very enticing tax stimulus, our market is considered strong.

At a recent sales meeting at the Iowa Realty Jordan Grove office, Office Manager Chuck Stull said, "At Iowa Realty our May pending sales were up nearly100% from May of last year. The overall trend of lower interest rates has seemed to stimulate more buyers and we are looking for a significantly stronger summer and fall than we had last year."

The American Dream is alive and well, especially here in central Iowa. Consider buying a home, or building a custom home. It is a solid investment.
